We want to thank all of you for your interest in our 2018 BBQ Capital Cook Off. For many of you, this would not have been the first time participating in this event and we cannot thank you enough for your incredible dedication to Uptown Lexington, Inc.
Some of you may have heard about the fire that destroyed the Lexington Home Brand “Dixie” Furniture Plant back in December. Our original understanding was that crews would be able to hold their investigation and begin clean up and have everything back to normal weeks before the Cook Off would even take place. Unfortunately, we have learned that that is not the case. The damage is far more extensive than the city had anticipated. Due to the extreme unstableness of the building and the close proximity to the Cook Off area, we will be canceling the Cook Off this year.
This was not a decision that was made lightly and we hope that you will understand that the safety of the public is one of our upmost concerns. Our Cook Off Committee has spent days brainstorming ways that would allow us to continue on with our 2018 Cook Off event and there is no feasible solution.
We hope you will stay tuned for more information on our 2019 BBQ Capital Cook Off. In the meantime, Uptown Lexington, Inc. will be hosting an event on April 27th, the Friday that the Cook Off would have originally started, that will honor the Cook Off event as well as the Dixie Plant.
Thank you so much for your understanding and for your support. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to give us a call or send us an email.
